As an integral part of a busy Manhattan teaching hospital, the Department of Anesthesiology oversees the care of over 18,000 surgical patients, as well as over 5000 obstetric deliveries, each year. The clinical work is carried out at two principal sites, each of which has its own distinct clinical case mix, providing a broad resident experience. St. Luke’s Division, for example, is a major Level 1 trauma center and the site of all cardiac surgical services. Roosevelt Division, on the other hand, has a large volume of complex
neurosurgery and a very busy labor and delivery service. Most surgical specialties, such as general,
orthopedic urologic and gynecologic surgeries, are well-represented at both sites. The residency program is constructed to provide for excellent exposure at both sites.
The Department is made up of 44 faculty, 5 fellows and 36 residents, all of whom work together to ensure the highest quality patient care.
